The Faculty

Professor Manohar Bance
Manohar Bance is Professor of Otology at Cambridge University having been a consultant otologist and skull base surgeon in Halifax, Canada for many years. He has a strong academic background and is also a very experienced clinician in the field of otology.

Mr Chris Coulson
Chris Coulson is a ENT consultant at the Queen Elizabeth hospital, Birmingham. His fields of interest are endoscopic ear surgery, stapes surgery and cochlear implantation. He has a PhD in robotic surgery and is actively involved in creating and delivering innovative healthcare solutions.

Mr Richard Irving
Richard Irving is a consultant otologist and skull base surgeon at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. He has one of the largest practices in this field in the UK.

Professor Simon Lloyd
Professor Lloyd is a consultant neurotologist and skull base surgeon in Manchester. He is based at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and at Salford Royal Hospital. He is also Professor of Otology at the University of Manchester.

Professor Rory McConn-Walsh
Professor McConn-Walsh is a consultant Otolaryngologist & Neuro-Otologist and Clinical Head of Department of Otolaryngology at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in Otolaryngology, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dublin. Chairman of Irish Specialty Training Programme in Otolaryngology, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland with special interests in Otology, Neuro-Otology and Lateral Skull Base Surgery and he provides a National tertiary referral service for these subspecialties for the Republic of Ireland.

Miss Irumee Pai
Miss Irumee Pai is a consultant otologist and implant surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals in London. She holds a senior lecturer position within the School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Sciences at King’s College London, where she is currently also undertaking a part time PhD.

Professor Shak Saeed
Professor Saeed is Professor of Otology and Neurotology at University College, London. He is also a consultant ENT and skull base surgeon at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. He is one of the most experienced otologists in the UK and is widely published in this field.

Mr Patrick Spielmann
Patrick Spielmann is a consultant Otolaryngologist with the main area of practice in Otology/Neurotology. He is the lead for vestibular services and lateral skull-base surgery.

Mr Alex Bennett
Alex Bennett has a busy clinical practice as an ENT Consultant and Clinical Director in Edinburgh. He is a previous Council member of the British Society of Otology, current Fellow of the Faculty of surgical Trainers, Royal College of Surgeon’s Edinburgh (RCSEd) and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, University of Edinburgh. He has run international courses accredited by the RCSEd: The Complete Ear Surgery Course and The Edinburgh ‘hands-on’ Balance Course. His current research interest is in ‘real world’ results in otology and unilateral aural atresia having pioneered combining hearing implant surgery with auricular reconstruction in the UK within the Scottish National Service.
